work hard, play hard, give hard…

Mimi and Kofi have a passion for sports and a commitment to leveraging themselves to improve the lives and experiences of others.  Individually, they each had noteworthy athletic careers, and now as a team, they are interested in supporting pathways for other youth.

Kofi Nartey played wide receiver at UC Berkeley.  He was then recruited to the former Oakland Raiders, but he suffered a knee injury in the first few weeks of training camp and was never able to fully recover.  Kofi transitioned to acting, and he has appeared in many productions, including Modern Family, The Young and the Restless, KickAss, and Fast and Furious.  Kofi ultimately started a real estate business and completed his MBA in the Presidential and Key Executive Program at Pepperdine University.

Mim Nartey (nee Osei-Agyemang) played competitive youth soccer, including the U.S. Olympic Development Program.  She became a member of the Ghana Women's National Soccer Team at the age of 15 and was the first foreign born national to represent Ghana.  She completed undergraduate and graduate programs at Columbia University, and eventually became the first woman to graduate from the Ivy League and participate in the FIFA World Cup.  She completed her doctoral studies in public health.

In 2003, Kofi and Mimi met during the FIFA Women's World Cup hosted by the United States.  Mimi was playing for Ghana, and Kofi and his dad (also originally from Ghana) attended the games at the Stub Hub Center in Carson, CA.

On New Year's Eve of 2006, Kofi and Mimi were married, and much of their careers and personal lives still revolve around sports.  Mimi was adjunct faculty member at Occidental College, LMU, and UCLA.  She was awarded a grant from the Kaiser Foundation to develop a course on Women's Sports and Empowerment that she taught at Oxy.  She sits on several boards related to youth development, and she is the founder and CEO of RCAP (dedicated to empowering mothers to parent from a stronger social justice perspective). In July 2021, Mimi joined Globl Real Estate and Development as the Director of Community and Philanthropy, where she is engaged in connecting the real estate company to the communities through programming and philanthropy.

Kofi specializes in luxury real estate and real estate development. He is the founder and CEO of Globl Real Estate and Development. Much of his client list includes well-known professional athletes, including Nick Young, Ladainian Tomlinson, and Michael Jordan.  Kofi also consults the National Football League (NFL) through their player engagement division on career development. His company represents real estate development projects in Mexico, Belize, Thailand, Ghana, and Nigeria, among others. In 2021, he was named to the “LA 500” list of influential business leaders by the Los Angeles Business Journal.

Reflecting on how much growth and opportunity they were afforded through their sports careers, the couple concluded that they wanted to give more young people the same opportunity.  In 2018, Kofi and Mimi launched The Nartey Sports Foundation as a way to give back and make an impact.  In 2018, the NSF hosted its first event to appreciate donors to specific campaigns targeting increased access for children and young adults from difficult circumstances.  Beyond what they have achieved professionally, the couple believes that The Nartey Sports Foundation will be a cornerstone of their family legacy.

The couple have a daughter, Liya (12), and a son, Lincoln (9) -- both of whom are talented athletes involved in competitive sports, including soccer and martial arts.  The entire family can often be seen kicking around a soccer ball in Playa Vista, California where they live.
