NSF Supporting Individual Athletes in Need
Replacing sports equipment for an athlete in need
In 2020, the Nartey Sports Foundation was able to respond to the needs of a family that lost everything in a fire in Glendale, CA. The foundation provided a grant to replace all of the sports equipment to the girl whose family lost everything, including their pet, to the tragic fire. This support helped the middle schooler to achieve some sense of normalcy after this unexpected tragedy.
The Nartey sports foundation awards their first partial college scholarship: cowgirl from compton
The City of Compton is most known for its gang violence, yet the city of Compton receives little to no recognition for the trailblazers who creatively found ways to defy the odds and break barriers. A well known (and rarely discussed) fact is that many roses have blossomed from Compton’s concrete streets.
Thirty-four years ago, Compton was made famous by NWA and has since produced artists and athletes such as Anthony Anderson, YB, Venus and Serena Williams, Kendrick Lamar and many more. We can now add Wynter Floyd to that list. Wynter, a 17-year-old Compton native has become the first African-American competitive barrel racer in the history of the almost 75-year rodeo program at Fresno State University.
The Nartey Sports Foundation became aware of Wynter through Dr. Mimi Nartey’s involvement as an advisor of The Collective Identity, a non-profit that provides mentorship and support to young Black women who are breaking barriers. The Nartey Sports Foundation was privileged to offer Wynter the first-ever NSF Athletic Scholarship towards her academic and athletic pursuits at Fresno State.
supporting a special needs athlete to become a guinness world recorder holder
The Nartey Sports Foundation was able to support a dynamic athlete with special needs to participate in Guinness World Record soccer match. He participated in the world’s largest soccer game! He inspires us all as he continues to achieve his dreams beyond any “spectrum” of limitations.
Youth soccer coach whose family was dealing with a cancer diagnosis
The Nartey Sports Foundation was pleased to provide a mini-grant to support the family of a dedicated youth soccer coach in Los Angeles whose family was dealing with a cancer diagnosis. This support helped the family to manage cancer treatment and other expenses. Much like school teachers, youth coaches dedicate so much time to the overall growth of young people and play a critical role in their character development. It was a privilege to give back to someone who spends so much time and energy improving the lives of children through sports.
